Zhu Kai, recipient of the Zhejiang University of Technology’s Youth Talent Support Program (Excellent Youth), is an Associate Professor and Doctor Supervisor in the School of Design and Architecture. He serves as the person in charge for the preparation of the Provincial First-class Undergraduate International Module in the Department of Urban and Rural Planning. He once worked on a temporary post in the Political Research Office of the Hangzhou Municipal Committee from 2015 to 2016. Currently, he holds a concurrent position as a Visiting Researcher at the Zhejiang Urban Governance Research Center and is a member of UPSC and IACP. Having pursued education at all levels (bachelor's, master's, and doctoral) at Southeast University, Pro. Zhu undertook joint doctoral training as a Fulbright Scholar in collaboration with MIT, and he also served as a Research Fellow in the MIT SPURS program, which providing him with a comprehensive interdisciplinary education background in the fields of humanities, sciences, and engineering.
Pro. Zhu is currently the principal investigator for project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, projects funded by the Ministry of Education and Zhejiang Province, and projects funded by Hangzhou City. He also has been involved in over ten local practical projects and served as the principal investigator for the key project of National Social Science Fund of China. He has published three monographs, more than 20 research papers, and has contributed three articles to national and provincial social science platforms such as Guangming Net, Chinese Social Sciences Network, and Zhijiang Policy Platform, and has participated in the formulation of one local standard.
Focusing on urban and regional industrial planning, innovation space layout, he also has long been concerned with urban renewal and household urbanization. He also serves as an invited reviewer for prestigious academic journals both domestically and internationally, including Growth and Change: A Journal of Urban and Regional Policy Ecological Indicators and New Architecture. For three consecutive years, Pro. Zhu has been nominated for the Qian Xuesen City Study Gold Medal. He has received the Annual Excellent Paper Award from the Zhejiang Federation of Humanities and Social Sciences three times and has been commended by the mayor of Hangzhou twice. He has successively received awards including the third prize of Science and Technology Progress Award of Zhejiang Province, the second prize of Planning Science and Technology Progress Award of Zhejiang Province, the Top Ten Ideas in Xihu City Study Award, the Excellent Paper Award in the National Youth Paper Competition of Urban Planning, the Science and Technology Award from the Urban Planning Society of China, and the Outstanding Class Advisor Award at Zhejiang University of Technology. Under his guidance, students have won numerous national awards in professional and comprehensive competitions, including the Gold Award in the WUPENicity Social Survey Competition and the third prize in the University Student Science and Technology Innovation Contest on Low-Carbon & Recirculation.
